Tips for Group Discussions
Group discussion is a way of evaluating students’ personality. A topic or subject is given to a group of participants and are made to discuss for a limited time and are assessed accordingly.
Group Discussion has number of advantages:
- GD helps to get over the shyness of participants and they can share each other’s point of views.
- It helps in stimulating new thoughts.
- Candidates can get to know their strengths and weaknesses.
- GD helps in expanding the knowledge of the candidates.
- Social and economic issues can more logically analyzed.
- It also helps the interviewer to analyze each candidate and this makes his job easier.
Here is a gist of what ought to be done and what must be avoided at a Group Discussion (GD)
- Be natural and be you. Don’t try to be someone you are not; your opinions will not be shown.
- Maintain a straight and confident posture.
- Be humble, yet assertive. Always stick to your values and beliefs and respect the opinions of others.
- Try starting the group discussion with your opinion. That is only if you are thorough about the subject. It leaves a good impression on the elevator.
- Never repeat the same points not talk lengthy. If someone else is going on an irrelevant track, you can intervene.
- Allow others to speak too. And acknowledge their points.
- Make sure you have an eye contact with all the participants. It makes more space for the conversations.
- You should be active and dynamically participate in the discussion.
- It is not good to be over confident. Be positive and prepare thoughts before you speak up.
- Use statements, statistical data points, articulations, regular day to day existence models to express a clear chain of considerations. Likewise, it may leave a decent impact on the interviewer and help you score well.
